Pat had asked on one of the blog posts if there was a list of local restaurants that are especially good for people with gastric bands.

I am not aware of a list, but I think we could probably brainstorm one here, and maybe it could become a resource for the clinic.

If you have a band, is there a restaurant that regularly understands your situation or treats you well when you make special requests to accomodate your band?

Is there a place around here that has a tasty meal that fits healthy guidelines for your band? Perhaps a place that has small portion options?

Give us your thoughts!

I enjoy a great burger every time I dine at Westport Flea Market (http://www.westportfleamarket.com/).  Join their email list and they send you coupons in your email for buy one get one free offers from time to time.  They have a smaller version of their burger called the Mini Market Burger.  I order it with no bun but add cheddar cheese.  They will also let you substitute cottage cheese for the french fries.  The beef is from McGonigle’s Market (http://www.mcgonigles.com/) and simply wonderful! Enjoy!  wink

For a low priced, yummy Saturday lunch you can visit Nick and Jake’s (http://www.nickandjakes.com/) they offer specials on Saturdays from 11:00 pm to 3:00 pm for $6.00.  There are a lot of choices but my favorites are the Firecracker Chicken Salad or the 1/2 lb. Angus Burger.  You can substitute cottage cheese for the fries and order the burger with no bun and add some cheese if you like.  I always end up with leftovers for lunch on Monday!  Enjoy!  cheese

Here is a few of my places i frequent. Taco bell Pintos’n’Pheese, and the Fresco (the non-dairy low cal menu)ranchero chicken taco is great when you out and about, chick-fil-a 8pc nuggets and low-fat honey mustard is great also. If you want a nice, late night fix with friends the 54th St Bar and Grill happy hour tacos are $1.50 each and two is a great meal with your friends and dirt cheap. When it comes to eating out remember you only have a lil pouch to fill so go for the good stuff, get filet mignon instead of the 16ox strip you end up taking home to the dogs.  I also love Indian food and almost all of it comes in a sauce so it’s moist and band friendly. My favorite place for Indian is Swagats in Zona Rosa. Hope this helps!!!!!

The only place I have not been able to order off of the children’s menu was at the original Smokehouse BBQ in the Northland.  I have not asked at the 3 others I have been to as I really don’t mind ordering a full meal and having leftovers 3 more times.
The following restaurants are places where I have either been able to utilize the card and order off of the children’s menu or who have fulfilled any special requests I have made.

Chili’s - they pureed the potato soup for me one day - it was heavenly.
Applebee’s
Smokehouse BBQ - special requests only, no children’s menu.
Bennigan’s - I still got 2.5 meals out of the children’s meal.
Frontera’s - the best Mexican food in KS
Guicho’s - the best Mexican food in MO
Jason’s Deli
Cracker Barrel
IHOP
Niece’s
Zio’s
54th Street
Buffalo Wild Wings
The ROC at First Baptist Raytown
Red Robin
El Maguey
Mama Chinese - or something like that in Raytown

I really only eat out once a week on Sundays and maybe twice a month with my co-workers, but boy does this list make me look like I eat out all the time.  Something tells me there may be more, but I think I should call it quits at this point.

I usually eat at Olive Garden’s kid’s menu and ask for wheat pasta if you can handle it.
