I had the lap band put in I believe two years ago.  I went to my appointments four hours away after awhile however I quit going after a year was up.  I didn’t have the money to go back. I have done terrible with losing weight on my own and I have only lost a total of 10 pounds since the surgery .  I want to get back into going to appointments and getting help, plus I have the cash now.  Will I be able to make appointments again or am I a done deal?  I am so embarrassed that I have not lost the weight like I should have .  What should I do?

Thanks for emailing me this question, too. I’m going to paste my reply below so other people who view the forum and have the same question can read my answer. Also, I contacted your local clinic and asked them to schedule you. Let me know how it goes!

My original response below:

No, I don’t believe you are a done deal, and I’m glad you wrote to ask.

I’m happy for you that your financial situation has improved, and are motivated to get on track to losing weight. The good thing about the band is that it is adjustable over time, and with some good education and counseling about how to use the band effectively as a tool, you should be able to improve your results.

Even with someone who has experienced a great deal of success, it is probably a good idea to do a check up once a year to check for any complication warning signs and to refresh yourself on the rules of working with the band and eating right.

You mentioned that you had driven quite a distance for the surgery. Did you have your surgery with us? Even if not, we can see you at one of our locations near you. Let me know which is closest, and I’ll put you in contact with that clinic to schedule your appointment and have the local provider discuss your progress and hopes for improvement. Currently, we have clinics in Overland Park, Wichita and Topeka, Kansas; Springfield, St. Peters (St. Louis area), Independence and KC Northland in Missouri; West Des Moines and (soon) Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Omaha, Nebraska.

Let me know which one would be closest for you and a phone number where your local clinic can call you to set up an appointment.

Thanks,
Adam
