What can I expect for the pre-op, post-op, etc?  I am one of those people that need to be prepared for anything.  My insurance company has approved my husband for lap band surgery.  I have already started to measure him. but need more suggestions, like grocery shopping, preparing for surgery, where to stay if we decide to stay the night in a hotel before the sugery (we living about 60 miles away)  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a grocery list for the next couple of weeks that I hope will help:

Grocery shopping list for gastric band patients

After your surgery, you will need to follow some specific guidelines designed to help your band seat properly and prevent future complications. This grocery list should help you make sure you have plenty of items you are allowed to eat after surgery.

o   Clear broth or bouillon – canned, cartons or bases of beef, chicken, pork or vegetable bouillon

o   Regular or sugar-free popsicles – no fruit ice or bars with pulp or seeds
o   Regular or sugar-free sorbet or ice – no pulp or seeds
o   Regular or sugar-free gelatin – any color, any flavor
o   Regular or sugar-free drinks – Crystal Light®, Kool-Aide®, etc.
o   Coffee and tea – decaffeinated or herbal
o   Regular or sugar-free instant hot apple cider

Days 3-7: Full Liquids

o   Skim or 1% milk* – may use milk treated with Lactaid® or take Lactaid® tablets if lactose intolerant.
o   Regular or sugar-free hot chocolate* – made with milk.
