We have a winner in our LAP-BAND Auction for TLC for Children and Families. The winning bid came in at the reserve price, just in the nick of time last Wednesday afternoon before the 5 p.m. deadline.
The LAP-BAND Auction was launched on October 20 at TLC for Children and Families' gala auction. It seemed an unusual silent auction item will be among the gift and wine packages normally seen at a charity auction, but the auction would allow one lucky person to get a great deal on a LAP-BAND Surgery from Weight Loss Surgical Center.
The surgery, which normally costs about $17,000, was up for auction with a reserve price of $9,600. Though the winning bid was submitted and accepted, the recipient of the surgery must be able to meet surgical requirements.
"We allowed someone to buy the surgery for themselves or as a gift for a loved one who might not have the means to afford a LAP-BAND Surgery, themselves," said Douglas Palzer, CEO and founder of Weight Loss Surgical Center. "This not a cosmetic surgery. The LAP-BAND is a powerful weight loss tool that can really improve a person's life, and TLC does some great things to improve the lives of children in need."
Weight Loss Surgical Center and TLC believe that this unusual auction item could amplify the life-improving effects of both organizations.
"Though the economy has slowed, the number of children in desperate need hasn't, So Weight Loss Surgical Center's generous gift could not have come at a better time," said TLC Board Member Tim Danneberg. "It's clear that WLSC is not just committed to improving their patients' lives, but the lives of some of our area's most vulnerable and exposed children at a time when it's most needed."
