Here's some news you probably could have guessed: artificial sweeteners do nothing to help you lose weight.
A professor from the University of Liverpool found that artificial sweeteners behave in a similar way to real sugar by activating sensors in the gut key to glucose absorption. Though the soda does not have glucose to absorb, it encourages your body to absorb more glucose from the food you regularly eat. The article explains this could be why so many diet soda drinkers are unsuccessful at losing weight.
