A Teen’s LAP-BAND Story

Saturday July 25 2009

Here's a feature from the Hartford Courant about a girl who got a LAP-BAND to help her lose weight and improve her health, even though she was a teenager at the time of surgery.

Allowing teens to have gastric bands is a controversial topic as medical experts try to determine if the health benefits outweigh the potential risks of allowing someone who is not an adult to get the band. At 5'6" and 278 lbs, the girl in this LAP-BAND story had a BMI of 45, and her family decided it was worth it. As of this summer, she was down to 208 lbs, just in time for prom.
